Pollen Trapping Pollen Traps Dead Bee Trap Wasp Trap Waxmoth Trap Asian Hornet Trap Propolis Screen or Trap Swarm Trap Bait Hives Swarm Lures Drone Trap |
Traps and Trapping used in beekeepingThis is a collection of items that are linked by the words trap or trapping. Some are designed for collecting bees or bee products and some are intended for collecting and killing pests. Pollen is a saleable product in its own right and is also very useful for providing adequate food resources for drone raising or queen raising. Propolis has many uses and can be harvested for sale, where a good price can be gained for clean material. Waxmoths and Wasps are a nuisance and can be reduced in numbers by the methods shown. Hornets are becoming more of a problem than in the past. They aren't easy to trap, so if they become a problem, then perhaps nest destruction is the only option. Asian Hornets have spread across Europe, where they are a serious pest. As of 2022 they seem to have been contained reasonably well in mainland UK, although Jersey beekeepers are having serious problems. Swarm traps should not be confused with bait hives used for attracting swarms that the beekeeper will use for his own purposes. Dead bee traps are unusual and are not commonly employed by ordinary beekeepers, but are used by scientists. |
