Beekeeping Tools Gimp Pin Remover |
Tack Lifter Tool... As Modified By Dave Cushman |
---|
The standard tack lifter tool can be modified very simply to do extra duty in removal of gimp pins, which makes it a handy tool for beekeeping purposes.
This inexpensive one has had an extra groove filed in one of the prongs, the profile of the tool is shown below and the curved shape gives leverage. The inside of the large groove has been relieved by grinding, in order to allow easier insertion under the head of a round head nail, tack or pin.
The modification can be seen in greater detail in the larger image at extreme right.
Some hive tools have 'V' shaped or diamond shaped grooves associated with holes in the flat portion of the tool, such grooves are intended for nail removal in a similar fashion to the tack lifter, but in all of my years of beekeeping I cannot remember ever having removed a nail using this facility.
Although this tool is painted red it is of the type known as 'yellow' that is described on the hive tools page. |
